I’ve been drawn to the craft ever since I was little but never ended up creating a practice. Do you think deep down we are all afraid of our power? Can Wicca help turn that around?
I think that there are many fears associated with the practice of Wicca that we
need to break through before we can have a successful practice. Wicca is definitely
empowering, but we have to want to be empowered and believe we can be empowered
to begin with.
I have found that one of the most common reasons people fear their own power
is because they believe that it is not something that we should want. Conventional
religious teachings tell us that we are not to consider ourselves powerful.
We are supposed to be humble, worshipful and basically weak. This is a feeling
that has permeated most of our modern society. The meek shall inherit the earth,
and all that.
If you look to popular culture, you see the same thing. People who are rich
and powerful are considered to be immoral and wrong. There must be something
else going wrong in their life, people say.
And into all this, Wicca comes and tells us that not only can we have power,
but we are supposed to have power. Of course there is a little fear and trepidation!
It may take a while to get over the feeling of being bad or that
you are doing something selfish or wrong by practicing
witchcraft. But these feelings are merely a result of getting the wrong messages.
The God and Goddess did not create you to be weak. They created you to be strong
and proud of who you are. They instilled in you a great personal power that
you are guided to put to use.
Do not be afraid to use this power. As long as you focus your energies correctly
and keep the Wiccan rede in mind during your practice, you cant do anything
wrong. Our personal power is ours to use, and with more practice in Wicca you
will learn that you can turn the fear around.
