Wicca has its roots in ancient religions
Wicca has its roots in ancient Goddess worship – a religion that predates all the modern mainstream religions such as Christianity, Judaism and Islam. This is a claim that some students of religion dispute, but have nevertheless failed to prove otherwise.
During the Paleolithic era, people believed in Gods and Goddesses, served them and worshipped them [...]

Wicca – A guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham (ISBN 0-87542-118-0: Llewellyn)
First printed in 1988, this definitive work on Wicca is in its 25th or 26th edition at present. The book at my disposal is the 23rd edition and was printed in 1999. Cunningham realized that most of the books available were aimed at Covens and compiled this work to address the gap at that time. It [...]

Litha (+/- 21 June)
Litha marks the Summer Solstice. It is the longest day and the shortest night of the year. The Goddess and God now rule the earth in union. The Goddess is pregnant, signifying the abundance and plenty now on earth. The Sabbat also indicates the turning point of the year. Until Yule, the light will gradually fade, giving in to darkness. Litha is not a time for reflection though. [...]

African witchcraft is a nature based religion, where one or more Deities, nature spirits and ancestral spirits are worshipped. The witchdoctor, with his or her ability to commune with Deity, nature spirits and ancestral spirits, is traditionally held in awe – an awe which is an odd mixture of respect and fear.
Witchdoctors frequently make use of channeling, throwing bones, dream interpretation [...]

There are serious matters that you need to consider before you make your final decision to join a coven. It requires a substantial investment in terms of time and effort. It involves doing an in-depth study of the Craft and a great deal of introspection, amongst others. In general, Celtic Wiccans celebrate exactly the same 8 Sabbats as Wiccans on other paths. Some may add additional celebrations such as the raising of the May-Pole Ceremony. The Celtic New Year was also celebrated on November 1, the day after Samhain. The lunar calendar is an important aspect of Celtic Wicca. Unique to this path is that each one of the 13 lunar months is named after a plant or a tree.

Is being a Christian and a Wiccan at the same time possible?
Yes and No.
Against the backdrop of the Christian Bible – cover to cover – no. Not in the very least.
If viewed against the backdrop of the New Testament only – yes. As much as it is possible to be a Dianic Wiccan or a Celtic Wiccan. But … and this is a serious BUT … there are some limitations: Although many [...]

Dianic Witches believe that the Goddess is present in every living thing – plants, animals, and humans – as well as the earth itself. They believe that it is from this presence of the Goddess, that life exists. Because the Goddess is present in all beings, Dianics believe that:
* All beings must be honored as Divine.
* All women are Goddesses.
* All men have the divine feminine within [...]

Fuelled by the hate campaigns against witches, ordinary people and nobility alike started blaming witches for every bit of misfortune that came about. Blame for everything ranging from bad harvests, to fires, to animal disease and even to the Bubonic Plague were ascribed to the evil powers of Witches. The problem was though, that not only Witches were targeted in this frenzy. Most of the victims of [...]

During the Burning Times and even for a time thereafter, Witches went underground. From the mid 1930s onwards a slow re-emergence of Witchcraft started taking place. A leader in this re-emergence was Gerald Gardner, an Englishman. In the USA, pressure was exerted by the Spiritualist movement to repeal the Witchcraft Laws, an effort which was rewarded with success in 1951.
Witchcraft started growing [...]

Tools of the Craft
Real Green Witches do not buy tools at all. Like the Hedgewitches, they favor making their own. They believe that by making your own tools from the materials found freely in nature, you will be better attuned to your tools and that the tools will be better attuned to nature in return. It is for this reason that indigenous materials are preferred above all else. When wood is needed, [...]

Hawthorn
The Hawthorn Tree is associated with Beltane. Traditionally Beltane was celebrated on the first day the Hawthorne blossomed. At Beltane the Goddess and God consummate their love and as a result the Goddess falls pregnant. The Hawthorn is also believed to be under the direct protection of the Faerie Folk. As a result, it was frowned upon if a Hawthorn was cut and the belief was held that felling [...]
